The Power of Dark Chocolate

Updated: Jun 9, 2021

Dark chocolate is arguably one of the best foods out there! It is naturally fermented and has a dense nutrient profile of soluble fiber, iron, magnesium, copper, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, zinc and selenium.

I personally find that it improves my mood when I’m feeling low. It’s my go-to for PMS and anxiety. A couple of squares satiates my craving without going overboard on the sugar.

Here's how dark chocolate can be beneficial to us:

  • Improves insulin sensitivity

  • Improves cognitive performance

  • Raises HDL & protects LDL from oxidation

  • Improves blood flow to the brain

  • Protects against heart disease

  • Enhances athletic performance

  • A great source of antioxidants

Most store bough dark chocolate has two problems- its processed with alkali and the sugar content is higher than desired. This makes the chocolate less healthy for us.

If you enjoy dark chocolate, look for one which has cacao content of 80% or higher and one that has not been processed with alkali.

For easily available dark chocolate, I'd recommend Amul's 70% or higher chocolate. But if you're an enthusiast, check out Darkins!
